Dark Circles Hindering Job Search? Traditional Chinese Medicine Offers Significant Relief for Nasal Allergies

If you have dark circles under your eyes, it is easy to give people the impression that you love to play and don’t sleep, and that you don’t have the energy to work, but often it is the “after-effects” of a nose allergy. A young job seeker who had suffered from allergic rhinitis since childhood faced repeated rejections during job interviews. One interviewer even kindly reminded him to take interviews seriously and not to stay up too late, which left him speechless as he struggled to explain.

Many patients who suffer from allergic rhinitis have been to various medical institutions. However, most doctors tell patients that nasal allergies cannot be eradicated and that they usually get better when they get older, or they can use surgical treatment to remove the polyps that swell up due to nasal allergies. However, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) takes a completely different perspective. Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee, director of Sheng-Pu Chinese Medicine Clinic, explains that nasal allergies are a fundamental response of the nose, and since the nose dissipates 35% of the body’s heat and is close to the brain, which is the most sensitive part of the nerves, it is still easy to relapse if polyps are removed.

Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee further explained that the nose is the heat dissipation organ of the lungs and large intestine, and nasal polyps are the thermostat of the body. When lung temperature drops, nasal polyps swell and narrow the airways to reduce excessive cold air intake, preventing illness. However, people often use their mouths to inhale instead of their noses because they can’t breathe smoothly due to nasal congestion, so the temperature of the lungs can’t warm up, and as a result, the nasal polyps continue to swell, causing the congestion to worsen.

If individuals recognize that their allergies stem from qi deficiency and a lack of yang energy, they can adjust their diet accordingly. Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee recommends avoiding cold substances such as pears, watermelon and cold drinks, and eating more leafy vegetables, rice and noodles, which increase the amount of colonic waste (high fiber). In terms of Chinese medicine, choose herbs that can nourish the qi. Dried ginger and ginger can increase the heat of the stomach and large intestine; astragalus and American ginseng can replenish the blood qi of the lungs and large intestine.

It is worth noting that it is important to activate the body mechanism to protect oneself. Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee mentioned that meditation, exercise, and the consumption of a rough diet can significantly improve allergic rhinitis. During meditation, the nervous system calms down, cells recharge more efficiently, and breathing slows, leading to reduced heat dissipation in the lungs and lower oxygen demand. As a result, sensitivity decreases, and allergic symptoms gradually improve. Moreover, if the nerve cells have enough rest and nutrients, they can recover early even if they are sick.
