Chinese medicine to treat cancer slowly? No effect for more than a month, better change the treatment method

Many patients who have been diagnosed with cancer often turn to traditional Chinese medicine for treatment after Western medicine has failed to produce results. However, Chinese medicine doctor Sheng-Pu Lee reminded the people not to be victimized by the misconception that Chinese medicine is “gentle” and must be “slow”, if there is no effect or response in a month, it is better to find other treatment methods to avoid delaying the time of treatment.

Ms. Huang, who had advanced breast cancer, was diagnosed by the hospital a year ago and chose to take her own Chinese herbal folk medicine after being told by her friends and relatives that it was mild and therefore slow to be effective, but even though she took it for a long time without improvement, she still insisted on taking it on her own until her breasts ulcerated, and only then did she turn back to a professional Chinese medicine doctor for help.

In fact, such examples are not uncommon in cancer patients, said Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee, a Chinese medicine doctor, highlighting that there are still many misconceptions among the people regarding the treatment of cancer in Chinese medicine.

According to a survey conducted in Taiwan, at least 50% of cancer patients have used Chinese medicine, so it is clear that many cancer patients have high expectations of Chinese medicine. Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee pointed out that Chinese medicine does have a chance in treating cancer, but just like Western medicine, there is absolutely no Chinese medicine doctor who can guarantee “I will definitely cure you” because it is impossible, and patients should have this basic understanding.

People often think that Chinese medicine or Chinese herbal medicine is a medical discipline that requires long-term maintenance to achieve results, but receiving Chinese medicine treatment should not continue indefinitely. Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee emphasized that if the patient does not see the expected effect or response within a treatment period, usually about one month, the patient should not continue to receive the same treatment and should consider changing the treatment method or even the doctor.

Chinese medicine does have successful cases of cancer treatment. For instance, 46-year-old Ms. Ye sought treatment from a Chinese medicine doctor for a fibroid tumor and breast lumps. After treatment, the proportion of menstrual periods slowly returned to normal and the breast lumps gradually shrank.

Chinese medicine is a natural biochemical system, unlike Western medicine, which requires surgery to remove the tumor but cannot guarantee that the tumor will not recur after it is removed. Chinese medicine relies on changing the patient’s internal constitution and improving the internal environment in order to eliminate the tumor.

Dr. Sheng-Pu Lee said that patients who want to receive Chinese medicine treatment should know that Chinese medicine is using medicine to operate rather than using a surgical knife, so the response to the medicine is very important. For example, many patients will feel extremely uncomfortable during the process of taking the medicine, such as swelling, stuffiness, like a needle stabbing at the tumor, or even feel the electric wave beating. However, these interpretations must be supervised by a professional Chinese medicine doctor in order to receive real therapeutic results.
